One-to-One Piano Lessons

with Amy

Overview

Friendly, professional piano lessons from my home on the Wirral. Children and adults alike can benefit from one-to-one piano tuition. Some prefer to have online lessons which I can also accommodate. Lessons can be weekly or fortnightly, though flexible lesson times can be arranged.

The Teacher

My name is Amy and I have enjoyed playing the piano since childhood. I have found learning to play the piano a very rewarding, exciting experience and have gained immense satisfaction from not only playing, but also teaching others. I have successfully taken Grade 8 in Practical Piano with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and Grade 7 in Music Theory with Trinity College London. In continuing my own musical progression, I am currently working towards my Music Performance Diploma and Grade 8 in Music Theory with the additional aim of soon studying for my ABRSM Teaching Diploma. I have experience in teaching students of different ages and abilities and I am DBS checked. Parents are encouraged to observe piano lessons.

Lesson Content

Lessons are always tailored to each individual student. Emphasis is placed on learning to read music confidently, understanding different rhythms, developing ability as a pianist and ultimately finding enjoyment in playing the piano. I encourage students to try out different musical styles and discover what will inspire them to progress further. Music theory is taught in conjunction with the practical side of learning piano as the two are linked and complement each other. Learning music theory helps students' progress and develop a greater understanding of playing piano.

Music Exams

Students can choose to take practical piano and music theory exams but they are not compulsory. Should a student decide on this route, I can support and guide them through the process. With a 100% success rate I have experience using the Music Teachers’ Board (MTB Exams), The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and Trinity College London. Exams are beneficial as they give focus and structure to learning. By setting specific goals of achievement, students have a clear aim to work towards.

Some students prefer to develop as a pianist without the pressure of taking formal exams. This method can still achieve very positive results. Goals can still be set to work towards such as refining and mastering a personal repertoire.
